Meet Emma

My name is Emma Stevens and I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. Even though I’ve continuously lived in Michigan, I have sought out opportunities to grow outside of my home as well. In 2018, I spent a semester in Kisumu, Kenya. This is where my passion for working with refugees and within diverse communities was sparked. Fast forward to my graduation from Hope College in 2020, I started working for Bethany Christian in a shelter for refugee youth as a Youth Specialist. Here, I deepened that passion for working with people from all different backgrounds. I worked with teens from Afghanistan, Honduras, Guatemala, Eritrea, and more. Participating in their traditions, dances, meals, holidays, religions etc. was the highlight of my two years spent in this position and a time of immense personal growth. I was able to learn Spanish working here, which brought me to NPH Honduras this past year. In Honduras, I volunteered for one year, living and working with around 200 children as the coordinator for the girls empowerment program and the visitors program. I was also able to lead a pregnancy support group in one of the rural communities. It was an amazing opportunity to fully immerse myself into another culture and to practice my language and professional skills. Now I’m am excited to continue my passion for working in diverse environments to support and empower others through Treetops Collective.

In my free time I enjoy trying new recipes, spending quality time with friends and family, and traveling.
