A Season of Deepening Impact at Treetops Collective
For a decade, Treetops has worked to Spread Welcome.
What began as a relational response to newcomers in West Michigan has grown into a cross-cultural community where refugees and immigrants are known, connected, and equipped to flourish.
Thanks to our supporters, this work is firmly established. Over the past year, we have listened closely to our members, staff, partners, and our city and are thrilled to introduce our new three-year strategic plan. A plan that acknowledges that belonging does not happen by accident, and it doesn't endure without care. It grows where thoughtful programs, strong systems, and healthy leaders create the conditions for people to thrive.
Belonging takes all of us!
Belonging Takes All of Us.
In this season, we are strengthening the foundation that makes belonging possible. We are refining and deepening our programs, investing in the people who carry this work, and building the resilience required for long-term impact.
To carry this work forward, we are committing to four strategic priorities that will shape the next decade of belonging in West Michigan:
Our Four Commitments
PILLAR 1
A place where belonging takes root
Belonging is the reason Treetops exists. We are a cross-cultural community where refugee and immigrant women, teen girls, and their families build relationships and step into leadership. Over the past decade, we’ve seen that belonging is built through thoughtful programs and consistent relationships.
When women and girls are supported to navigate new systems and strengthen their skills, we all become stronger. This is the work that everything we do supports.
What this means now
- Refining and aligning our core programs
- Clarifying outcomes and measuring impact
- Strengthening the path from welcome to belonging
PILLAR 2
Cultivating belonging through relationship centered programs
Our programs are grounded in research, shaped by lived experience, and strengthened through evaluation. We hold expertise in cross-cultural engagement, ethical partnership, and transformative community-building. We are also stepping forward as educators and conveners to help other West Michigan institutions engage refugees and immigrants well.
What this means now
- Clear outcome metrics across programs
- Strengthened curriculum and team alignment
- Expanded alumni and leadership engagement
PILLAR 3
Tending the people who carry the work
Our staff and refugee and immigrant leaders bring depth, professionalism, and lived experience to this work. We are investing in a strong People & Learning strategy: clarifying roles, strengthening leadership pathways, and building healthy systems that support growth and rest.
What this means now
- A world-class HR and People & Learning framework
- Updated staffing structures and compensation planning
- Intentional investment in leadership development
PILLAR 4
Growing a canopy that lasts for generations
We are building financial resilience and operational strength so that Treetops remains a stable, trusted presence in West Michigan for decades to come. This includes expanding local support, strengthening social enterprise, and stewarding our spaces wisely.
What this means now
- Growing local donor investment
- Strengthening social enterprise performance
- Increasing space utilization to steward our mission
Help Belonging Grow
Belonging grows when a community chooses to invest in it.
Some will give, some will host. Some will advocate, and others will connect friends and partners to this work. However you participate, you help strengthen the canopy of belonging that shelters our neighbors and shapes our city.
We’re grateful to build this future with you.
As we step into 2026 we are committed to the “why” of our mission - that anyone who has experienced the pain of displacement can live a vibrant, whole life in connection with their neighbors. And this mission is shared with all of you - people who believe in the power of our neighbors to build the world we want to see, transforming it into a place of belonging.
