Meet Theresa

I was born in Ghana with a Christian background. I can be an introvert and an extrovert at the same time. I have a large family who are intentional and create an impact on anyone they come across. My mom passed away at a younger age, so I grew up with other members of my family. I studied visual art in school because I was good at drawing and good with colors. I thought it was a gift because I was passionate about it, but it got to a point where I couldn't just do anything with that imagination. I completed high school, and not long after, I got pregnant with my first child. In the same year (2012), I had the opportunity to travel to the United States. Leaving my child behind made it difficult to focus, so a part of me wanted to go back home. In the midst of that, I also wanted to build myself up since I didn't have school results, so I thought of getting my GED. I did that and worked on getting my certificate from back home. When I was finally able to get it, I decided to further my education. Not sure what to study, but after many enquiries, I settled for nursing. However, due to the cost, I struggled to keep up with the fees, and I dropped out. At that time, I was working as a cashier, so I changed my career and worked on getting a home care license, which I did. I was doing that in New York before I had to move to Michigan in 2016.

I settled in Grand Rapids and discovered Treetops through Shadia. I became a Concentric Member and was matched with Marla. She's incredible, and I'm grateful to have met her and her family. She showed up for me in so many ways that words cannot describe. Her actions are intentional, and for that I am grateful. I also have the opportunity to work here at Treetops as a Building Steward and as a Concentric Leader after being a stay-at-home mom for so many years.

What I am passionate about is the connections. I love building relationships with strong backgrounds that can last a lifetime. I am passionate about helping others in any way that I can while staying positive and open-minded.

My hope is to go back to school, be financially independent, and be confident in myself while finding myself. I want to be able to offer my children what I was offered and influence the people around me with my experience and support in a positive way. Hopeful to create a meaningful purpose wherever I find myself.
