Meet Barwaqo

Barwaqo came to the United States in 2002 as a Refugee. She settled in Grand Rapids and went to community college for general education. She also did training as a nursing aide and worked for seven years. In 2010, she went to Rainy River Community College to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. In 2011, she graduated as a licensed practical nurse. Barwaqo is also a medical interpreter in four languages.

In 2023, Barwaqo became a concentric member under the Concentric Program at Treetops Collective. After one year as a member, she became a concentric leader. She will lead seven women from the Swahili community. She is a mother of two and loves helping her community. She volunteers at her local masjid and enjoys spending quality time with family and friends.
